Amazon Studios Greenlights Five Of Its Original Pilots

As we previously reported, Amazon Studios picked up "Alpha House" and "Betas" for their comedy shows. Now the company has announced that production will also begin on children’s shows "Annebots," "Creative Galaxy," and "Tumbleaf," all arriving on Prime Instant Video later this year and into early 2014. The announcement left nine of Amazon’s other pilots behind.

Gary Trudeau enthusiastically trumpeted "Alpha House" production: "As the future of episodic TV packs up and moves to Seattle, we hope the audience will continue to have as much fun watching the show as we have making it." Sharing a similar enthusiasm, Michael London, executive producer of "Betas," said, "This is only the beginning for our young social media players and we are excited to push them out in the big world to see if they sink or swim."

Angela C. Santomero created "Blues Clues" and "Super Why!", which explains "Creative Galaxy"’s use of animation, art, and adventure to inspire kids’ creativity and expression. She too embraced the success of her pilot, saying, "I’m proud and honored to be collaborating with Amazon to make these shows for kids."

"Annebots" creator J.J. Johnson drummed up interest for his pilot by also adding a Kindle app to tie directly in with the show. It’s not out yet, but it will share a similar story line with the show, where a young scientist named Anne uses robots of her own creation to assist with her experiments in her father’s junkyard.

Bix Pix Entertainment, led by Drew Hodges and Kelli Bixler, created "Tumbleaf" using their award-winning stop-motion methods to tell the story of Fig, a blue fox, on the hunt for adventure, friendship and fun. His travels are primarily aimed at preschoolers, but stories will encourage exploration, scientific thought and playing well with others.

Despite cutting the field down to just five shows, Roy Price, director of Amazon Studios, indicated the potential for another round of pilots: "The success of this first set of pilots has given us the push to try this approach with even more shows — this is just the beginning."
